  Bolton Castle

Bolton Castle has plenty to offer for a great family day out. Explore the dark dungeon or the breath taking views in the maze garden. This castle is very well preserved and is still in the private ownership of Lord Bolton, the direct descendant of the castle’s original owner Sir Richard le Scrope. (5.5 miles)

  Middleham Castle

Middleham Castle built in 1190 on the grounds of a motte and bailey castle. Once the home of Richard III, now owned by English Heitage. A very interesting history to this castle situated in a lovely small town. ( 9 miles)

  Richmond Castle

The Norman castle was originally built in 1071 to subdue the unruly North of England it is one of the greatest Norman fortresses in Britain. 

Learn all about the castle’s past in the interactive exhibition before taking a peaceful stroll round the secluded Cockpit Garden. (16 miles)

  Richmond Abbey (Easby)

Easby Abbey or the Abbey of St Agatha is an abandoned Premonstratensian abbey on the eastern bank of the River Swale. The site is maintained by English Heritage and can be reached by a riverside walk from Richmond Castle. (18 miles)

  Jervaulx Abbey

Founded in 1156, Jervaulx Abbey was once a great Cistercian Monastery. It is the second largest privately owned Cistercian Monastery in the U.K. The ruins are very interesting to look around and it is a lovely place to take children for a picnic. The Abbey do have their own tearooms if you fancy treating yourself! (12.5 miles)

  Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal

This magnificent Cistercian Abbey, water garden, play area and deer park is a fab day out for all the family. This special place is classed as a World Heritage Site. (Ripon 30.5 miles)

  Constable Burton Hall

Constable Burton Hall is a stunning Palladian villa. Designed by the celebrated architect John Carr for Sir Marmaduke Wyvill, and completed in 1768, it is widely recognised as one of the finest medium-sized English houses built in the Palladian style. The Hall stands in extensive woodland and formal gardens which are open to the public from mid-March to mid-September. Stunning seasonal displays of snowdrops and daffodils carpet the woodland walks and garden trails, making it an absolute must for garden and nature lovers alike. (11 miles)

  Thorp Perrow

Thorp Perrow is an exciting place to explore offering something for everyone, and is home to some of the largest and rarest trees and shrubs in England. There are tree trails, a nature trail and a children's trail, a large lake, picnic area, children's play area, bird of prey and mammal centre.(Nr Bedale 20.5 miles)

  Dales Countryside Museum

Dales Countryside Museum tells the fascinating story of the Yorkshire Dales and the people who have lived and worked here and shaped the landscape for thousands of years. With loads of fun and interesting things for visitors of all ages to see and do, the Museum offers the chance to discover what is so unique about the Yorkshire Dales and make your visit to the area really special. Find out why creatures like rhinos, elephants and hippos once roamed the

area. See amazing and precious objects such as a Bronze Age spearhead and Viking gold ring. (Hawes 10.5 miles)

  Gayle Mill

Bring the story of Gayle Mill's fascinating people and history to life for you

  Wensleydale Creamery- Cheese Factory

In the Museum, you can find out how the art of Wensleydale cheese-making has evolved over the centuries, and watch the skilled Wensleydale cheese-makers in action from the viewing gallery. Then the yummy bit, cheese tasting! (Hawes 11 miles)

  Forbidden Corner

The Forbidden Corner is a unique labyrinth of tunnels, chambers, follies and surprises  created within a four acre garden in the heart of Tupgill Park and the Yorkshire Dales. The temple of the underworld, the eye of the needle, a huge pyramid made of translucent glass, paths and passages that lead nowhere, extraordinary statues – at every turn there are decisions to make and tricks to avoid. We can only describe this place as fabulous, exciting and amazing! A must for families! (Nr Middleham 8 miles)

  Black Sheep Brewery & Theakstons Brewery

Take a tour around these breweries and then taste the different ales. Both breweries are owned by Theakston brothers. (Masham 18 miles)

  Big Sheep Little Cow

A family run farm visitor centre in Bedale, provide a unique hands on farm experience for children and adults, holding and feeding animals. These are structured around a farm tour at specific times.
If you're looking for a children’s farm that offers a great family day out then this is the place to visit. Families can come and play together, whether it’s in Wooly Jumpers Play Barn or outside on the go-karts or in the large sandpit play area. (18.5 miles)

  World Of James Herriot

Explore the world of James Herriot, the television locations and the inspiration behind his novels. (Thirsk 32.5 miles)

  Skeldale House is the famous location for the veterinary practice where character James Herriot worked. Askrigg is also home to the Kings Arms, which was used as the setting of the Drovers’ Arms in the film.  (Askrigg 7 miles)

  Lightwater Valley

North Yorkshires theme park and farm. A fun day out for all the family.                   (Nr Ripon 24 miles)

  Aerial Extreme

Adventure up high, zip wires, balance beams, rope bridges and scramble nets etc…..Great outdoor fun. (Bedale 24 miles)

  Richmond Georgian Theatre Royal

  Ripon Police and Prison Museum, Courthouse Museum and Workhouse Museum 

Take a trip through time and see what Ripon was like in the Georgian and Victorian eras. Tickets for these museums can be bought separately or a combined ticket can also be purchased. (27 miles)

  Ripon Races

Enjoy the racing experience at what is known as the 'Garden Racecourse', with its beautiful surroundings and situated in one of the oldest cities in England. Fabulous fun for all the family. (28 miles)

  Ripon Cathedral

Visitors have followed the Pilgrim Trail here for over 1300 years, to enjoy the peace and prayerful tranquillity of this beautiful and ancient centre for Christian faith. Enjoy the atmosphere and architecture of this holy building, all are welcome. (27 miles)

  Brymor Ice Cream Parlour

Established in 1984 on a dairy farm by a family who just began making ice cream with the spare milk from their gorgeous Guernsey cows. Lovely ice cream. (14 miles)
